In order to find a break from the rigors of business school, Stephen and Michael found camaraderie and peace exploring the mountains in the Pacific Northwest on skis. When a friend mentioned the difficulty of the Grand Traverse ski race, Stephen and Michael naturally responded by signing up for the challenge!
The Grand Traverse is a back country ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen, Colorado. Competitors travel 40 miles over the Elk Mountain, climbing over 6,800 vertical feet. To ensure their safety, racers must have a partner, carry mandatory gear, and start at midnight when avalanche danger is low.
The unique nature of this race inspired the team to raise money for the Knights of Heroes Foundation - an organization that changed the course of Michael's life after he left the military. Knights of Heroes empowers children who have lost their fathers during military service by providing positive adult mentorship, character development, and lasting friendships, forged during an annual wilderness adventure camp. During his experience working for the organization, Michael saw the true power of the outdoors and decided to pursue a career in the outdoor industry.
Stephen and Michael know that every dollar raised will change the lives of military families who made the ultimate sacrifice.
