The program was started in January of 2007 by an Air Force Officer who answered a call to give something back to America's heroes following the loss of a friend in Iraq. Families with boys between the ages of 8 and 16 are to invited attend, at absolutely no cost. The boys attend the camp while the moms and daughters spend the week visiting sights in and around Colorado Springs. In addition, grandfathers, uncles or family friends who have a close relationship with potential campers are encouraged to attend as part of our staff. Lodging and travel arrangements will be made for families interested in attending from outside the local area. Activities for moms and siblings not attending the camp take place throughout the week. The camp is founded on Christian Faith but it is not a Bible camp. Boys of all beliefs and from every background are welcome. The first camp was held in June of 2007 under the name, "Modern Day Knights". Sixteen boys attended from Texas, Florida, Arizona and Colorado. The camp was so successful a non-profit organization was established under the name "Knights of Heroes" in November of 2007. In 2008, 22 boys, 8 girls and 13 moms and grandmothers from 11 states attended. The camp was once again a remarkable success. God willing, this program will continue to grow and provide a place for the son's of our heroes to gather for years to come. |
